At the heart of effective restoration are women – resilient, insightful, and deeply connected to the lands they nurture. During a recent Gender and Social Equity training hosted by WRI and its partners, the lived experiences and voices of women took center stage. From running tree nurseries to rallying entire villages, women across Kenya are not just participating in restoration – they’re leading it. Their impact goes far beyond tree planting; they are shaping land-use decisions, innovating community-based climate solutions, and safeguarding indigenous knowledge for future generations.

As participants shared personal stories of perseverance and leadership, one truth became undeniable: inclusive restoration is both just and strategic. Women’s unique understanding of their ecosystems, family needs, and long-term sustainability is critical to the success of climate and conservation efforts.

At Save Kenya Water Towers, we are proud to champion these leaders by offering training, visibility, and opportunities to grow. This workshop reaffirmed what we’ve long believed—when women lead, restoration thrives, and communities advance.
