Chebara Conservation Run — 14 December 2024
A Day of Purpose, Unity, and Movement for Nature
The Chebara Conservation Run unfolded on December 14th in the heart of the Cherangani ecosystem — and what a day it was. Communities from across the region, from Moiben WRUA to the Chebara Dam neighbourhoods, turned out in full force. The energy on the ground was undeniable: purposeful, proud, and deeply rooted in a shared commitment to protect one of Kenya’s most vital ecosystems.
This event was more than a run. It was a collective expression of what conservation looks like when it is lived, felt, and shaped by the people closest to the land. Our approach to restoration is grounded in one simple belief: community action thrives when it feels local, familiar, and connected to everyday life. That’s why sports and long-distance running in particular — continue to be at the centre of our conservation model.
In the North Rift, running is woven into our identity. It is cultural. Historical. Generational. This region has produced some of the world’s most iconic athletes, and through events like the Chebara Conservation Run, that same spirit of endurance and discipline is being channelled into environmental stewardship — protecting forests, safeguarding rivers, and restoring our water towers.
We are proud to have partnered in this initiative, but even prouder of what we witnessed: unity across ages, resilience in every stride, joy in every finish, and a community standing firmly for the future of its landscape.
To every participant — runners, supporters, youth groups, elders, organizers, and conservation partners — thank you.
Your presence made a difference.
Here’s to more miles, more momentum, and more communities rising for nature.
