Farmer Training Day Recap: Agroforestry Techniques That Work
Stories and field notes from Save Kenya Water Towers.

3 May 2026
Following its inception meeting with local leaders and cooperative officials in Soy North and Soy South, Save Kenya Water Towers (SKWT) has held its first Training of Trainers day, putting agroforestry techniques into farmers' hands.
On 30 April, SKWT trained officials from the Farmer Co-operative Societies at Chepsirei Ward Office, together with the women and youth who turned up as champions, just as encouraged at the earlier meeting. The training covered practical agroforestry techniques for integrating trees into farmland, alongside coffee management and soil and land management practices suited to the area's erosion-prone terrain.
Strong turnout from women and youth across the cooperatives was a highlight of the day, reflecting the emphasis SKWT placed on their participation from the start. Trained representatives are now expected to cascade what they learned to fellow farmers within their cooperatives, extending the reach of the training well beyond those in the room.
SKWT thanks the Soy North and Soy South Farmer Co-operative Societies and Ward Agricultural Officers for their partnership so far, and looks forward to the next steps in bringing agroforestry and assisted natural regeneration to the community.
